The 2nd Annual IMPACT Childhood Obesity Conference

Description:
Join us for a two day exploration of current national school and community based initiatives aimed at tackling the epidemic of childhood obesity in the U.S. Issues surrounding the epidemic will be discussed, along with an in-depth look at current approaches and initiatives being implemented across the country, starting with the Obama administration’s landmark Let’s Move! campaign. This conference provides a valuable educational and networking opportunity for any school or community health professional involved in the fight against childhood obesity.
Date:
Tues. July 20th & Wed. July 21st, 2010

Time: 8:30 am – 3:00 pm each day
Location: UNC Charlotte Campus
Objectives:
At the end of this conference, participants will be able to
· Describe current initiatives aimed at reducing childhood obesity in the U.S.
· Discuss potential impacts of childhood obesity
· Discuss national policy related to childhood obesity in the U.S.
· Describe a family-centered approach to preventing and treating childhood obesity
Credit:
Day One: 5.5 Contact Hours Day Two: 5.0 Contact Hours (Total 10.5 Contact Hours)
Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration will be applied for.
Cost:
$89 both days, $49 students (lunch included both days)

The registration fee covers unlimited attendees and CPE for all ADA members. (Nonmembers pay a nominal processing fee.) Group site fees are $109 ADA members, $175 Nonmembers; 30-day post event recordings: $49 members, $69 nonmembers.

Obesity Society’s Online Continuing Education Programs
The Weight Management DPG of ADA endorses/promotes The Obesity Society, the leading scientific society dedicated to the study of obesity. This organization has been committed to encouraging research on the causes and treatment of obesity and to keeping the medical community and public informed of new advances. The Obesity Society provides a variety of free online continuing education courses for health professionals including registered dietitians. According to the Commission on Dietetic Registration, their courses are appropriately accredited, and therefore, can also be utilized for CPE credits. This site also provides informational presentations and slides for use in your own presentations.
